A lineup of quality wordsmiths that’ll make you laugh, cry, and think…then laugh a bit more.

Andy Riley

Andy Riley has written for a host of comedy shows, including Big Train, Smack the Pony, Armstrong and Miller, Black Books, Spitting Image, The Armando Iannucci Show, Veep, Trigger Happy TV, Harry Enfield etc.

He’s won a BAFTA, and an Emmy, and is the creator of the best-selling Bunny Suicides books. He co-wrote the Ardman animated film, The Pirates! and is published in Private Eye.  Expect hilarious micro-stories and laughs aplenty from this comedy maestro!

James Domestic

Domestic has a great live reputation and has supported poetry legends Luke Wright, Attila the Stockbroker and Mark Grist. His 2025 Colchester Fringe show, That’s Not Poetry! garnered great reviews, and his work has been compared to John Cooper Clarke, Ivor Cutler, Spike Milligan, Bejamin Zephaniah, and Ian Dury. Expect poems about cats, photocopiers, orgies and more! AS SEEN ON TV!

Laura Bradley

A star in the making! Laura is a high calibre performer of words that’ll make you think and most likely snort yourself silly with laughter. A one-woman-laughathon! Magic!

Sam Marsh

Sam is a Buddhist, a punk, and a poet. He’s played Reading Festival in one of John Peel’s favourite bands (Jacob’s Mouse). His two books use reflection and humour to try to understand the choppy waters of life.  He’ll make you laugh and think, that’s for sure.

Matt Carter

Your compere for the night is Gob’s very own Matt Carter!

Monsters of Metal is an all-ages event. Under-16’s must always be accompanied by an adult.  Under-18’s are only allowed in the bar area to purchase a soft drink and then must return to the event area.   The Hunter Club is an 18+ venue, and all-ages events work on mutual respect.  You are welcome to attend advertised events, but to watch the music.  Not to hang around outside, or in other parts of the club that are neither bar or venue.  Abuse of these policies will result in all events being 18+ only.     The Hunter Club is a safe space. We have a zero-tolerance policy to any kind of abuse.  Please alert a member of staff if you have a concern or are worried about someone.   No outside bottles are allowed in. Reusable water bottles must be emptied upon entry. Water is available at the bar.   Bags may be checked upon entry to the venue.   We reserve the right to refuse entry or ask a person to leave without reason.
